Thanks for your reply!

The material is a white shiny plastic (cannot find the quote to be more specific). I would prefer not to use a third party as this adds a step that I'd rather avoid for logistical as well as, potentially, compliance issues. I was looking at something like a desktop laser engraver though I cannot risk reliability issues as this process may take place in any number of locations that may not be so easy to deal with (Asia, for example)

Here is a link to the laser marker I mentioned:

Nice response.

But I think your latter point just outlines a cultural bias rather than ethnic/genetic strata, as ethnicity is something quantifiable. Though I understand there are sub groups within the eastern slav ethnicity. I guess my shitty point was that, in my experience, eastern slavs see one another as all the same despite cultural/political/and genetic differences. This being especially true due to the massive soviet era labor migrations.

I think there are some parallels with the US ... the various corners of the states talk mild shit to one another on a subcultural basis (northerns/southerns/westerns in general do poke fun at each other, or otherwise stratify themselves) but at the end of the day recognize that they're all in the same boat. Another crude point but I think you'll understand.

And so the Crimea conflict looks practically like a civil war to me in that there are likely blood relatives in opposition. But obviously, technically it is not a civil war.

Are you sure anyone in charge of that fiasco thinks it was a horrible mistake? The only thing they realize is that they made a shit load of money.

i hate to knit pic but russia/ukraine is ethnically identical, in general, especially in this context. for reference, i'm a soviet expat made of people from the urals and ukraine - ask any eastern slav, they're all folks (whether they're killing one another or otherwise).

like any other egg, humanity needs time to hatch. they understand that helping us hatch won’t do us any favors. like the chicken that cant break its eggshell on its own is destined to die. we need to get our shit under control or die. but if we succeed there may be a chance for interstellar networking.

what would the usa practically do? this situation reminds me of crimea. i wonder if this is china’s response to the biden admin’s stance on taiwan, specifically, recently referring to it as a country and the disagreements about the issue of sovereignty at the alaska meeting.
